Exciting London Study Tour for Doctor of Social Work Students
News & Events

From 21 to 30 April, a group of Doctor of Social Work students from the Department of Applied Social Sciences, PolyU embarked on an enriching study tour in London. This incredible opportunity was made possible through the strong network and support of Goldsmiths, University of London. The collaboration between these two institutions provided a unique platform for learning and exchange.

During their visit, the students had the privilege of meeting an alumnus, Dr Carmen Yau, who is now a faculty member at Goldsmiths. This alumnus has achieved extraordinary success in England, earning prestigious awards - the Disability Power 100, which is compiled by national charity Shaw Trust, for her outstanding contributions to the education, practice and research in social work. As the Lead of Wellbeing Research Unit, she focuses on social policies and services that promote independent living and wellbeing of disabled individuals. Her achievements serve as a powerful inspiration for the students, showing them the potential impact they can have in their future careers.

The study tour was filled with valuable experiences, from attending lectures and workshops to exploring different social work practices, innovative approaches, and challenges faced in delivering social services to marginalised populations, including those involved in sustainable development initiatives in London.

We are also grateful for the support from the Keswick Foundation and the privilege of meeting with Mrs Clara Weatherall, Chairman of the Keswick Foundation’s Board of Governors, Mrs Clare Keswick and Mrs Martha Keswick.
