Dedicated to advancing integrated community services and promoting the development of social work, education, health, and rehabilitation practices across Chinese Mainland, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) held a meeting with delegations from the Society Work Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission and the Keswick Foundation.

APSS scholars and delegates from Beijing exchanged insights on advancing indigenous social work and enhancing community well-being.

During the meeting, Prof. CHEN Juan, Associate Dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies (CUS), PolyU, a member of the CGDN Management Committee, highlighted the latest development and achievements of the Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS), PolyU, including its extensive partnerships with universities across the Chinese Mainland and around the world. Prof. Ben KU, Director of CGDN, shared significant milestones in practice-oriented research that have contributed to the development of indigenous social work theories and community-responsive practice models in the Chinese Mainland. 

Prof. CHEN Juan and Prof. Ben KU shared recent achievements and research milestones in social service development in the meeting. 

Mr Kin-Chung TANG and Mr Tony WONG, from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (RS), PolyU, shared innovative occupational therapy initiatives in the Chinese Mainland.

Participants shared a common commitment to practice-driven innovation that addresses real community needs. Rather than focusing solely on conventional academic research, they emphasised developing evidence-informed solutions that deliver tangible benefits to individuals, families, and communities.

The meeting laid the foundation for future collaboration among PolyU, the Beijing authorities, and the Keswick Foundation. Under this partnership, APSS and RS will undertake interdisciplinary practice research in Beijing communities, combining social work and rehabilitation expertise to strengthen professional practice, enhance community well-being, and generate insights for community development across the Chinese Mainland.
